Katha Upanishad · Valli 1.1
Katha Upanishad 1.1.6 meaning
anupashya yatha poorve pratipashya tath-apare
sasyam iva martyah pachyate sasyam iv-ajayate punah
Look at how our ancestors acted, and see how good people act now. A mortal ripens like grain and falls, and like grain is born again.
What it means
Nachiketa asks his father to keep his word, as the good always have. Life is short, like a crop that ripens and falls, so holding to truth matters more than holding on to comfort.
Spoken by Nachiketa.
