Chanakya Niti 15.1 meaning

yasya chittam draveebhootam kripaya sarvajantushu tasya jnanena mokshena kim jatabhasma-lepanaih

For someone whose heart melts with compassion for every living creature, what need is there for knowledge, liberation, matted hair or smearing the body with ash?

What it means
Compassion is the heart of spirituality. Outer signs of religion matter far less than how kindly you treat people and animals. A tender heart already holds what rituals are trying to reach.

Spoken by Chanakya.
