Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.4.2 meaning
sa h-ayam eeksham chakre yan mad anyan n-asti kasman nu bibhem-eeti
tata ev-asya bhayam veeyaya kasmad dhy abheshyat dviteeyad vai bhayam bhavati
स हायमीक्षां चक्रे यन्मदन्यन्नास्ति कस्मान्नु बिभेमीति ।
तत एवास्य भयं वीयाय कस्माद्ध्यभेष्यत् द्वितीयाद्वै भयं भवति ॥
The first being, alone, felt afraid. Then it reflected: "There is nothing other than me — so what am I afraid of?" With that, its fear vanished. For fear only comes from a second, from something other.
What it means
Fear is born from feeling that something separate and hostile is out there. When you look honestly at a fear and ask what exactly you are afraid of, it often loosens its grip.हिंदी में अर्थ
आदि पुरुष अकेला था और उसे डर लगा। फिर उसने सोचा: "मेरे सिवा कुछ है ही नहीं, तो मैं किससे डर रहा हूँ?" इसी से उसका डर मिट गया। डर तो किसी दूसरे से ही होता है।
डर तब पैदा होता है जब लगता है कि कोई अलग और विरोधी चीज़ बाहर खड़ी है। ईमानदारी से पूछें कि मैं किससे डर रहा हूँ, तो डर अक्सर ढीला पड़ जाता है।
