Srimad Bhagavatam 8.22.30 meaning

guruna bhartsitah shapto jahau satyam na suvratah chalair ukto maya dharmo n-ayam tyajati satyavak

Though scolded and cursed by his own teacher, this man of firm vows did not give up truth. Even when I spoke of dharma with tricks, he who is true to his word did not abandon it.

What it means
Bali kept his promise even when his own guru told him to break it. Staying true under pressure is the real test of character. Keep your word, even when it costs.

Spoken by Vamana.
