Srimad Bhagavatam 11.3.21 meaning
tasmad gurum prapadyeta jijnasuh shreya uttamam
shabde pare cha nishnatam brahmany upasham-ashrayam
तस्माद्गुरुं प्रपद्येत जिज्ञासुः श्रेय उत्तमम्।
शाब्दे परे च निष्णातं ब्रह्मण्युपशमाश्रयम्॥
So one who seeks the highest good should go to a teacher who is well versed in the scriptures, who has realised the Supreme, and who lives in deep inner calm.

इसलिए जो परम कल्याण जानना चाहता है, उसे ऐसे गुरु की शरण लेनी चाहिए जो शास्त्रों में निपुण हो, जिसने परमात्मा का अनुभव किया हो और जो भीतर से शांत हो।
अच्छे मार्गदर्शक में ज्ञान और अनुभव दोनों होने चाहिए, और उनकी शांति से उन्हें पहचाना जा सकता है। जो सिखाते हैं वैसा ही जीने वाले से सीखना बरसों का भटकाव बचा देता है।
