Srimad Bhagavatam 10.5.4 meaning
kalena snanashauchabhyam sanskarais tapas-ejyaya
shudhyanti danaih santushtya dravyany atm-atmavidyaya
Things are purified in different ways: by time, by bathing and cleaning, by rites, by austerity, by worship, by giving, and by contentment. But the self is purified only by knowing the self.
What it means
Outer cleaning has its place, and so do giving and contentment. But the deepest cleansing happens inside, through understanding who you really are. No ritual can replace honest self-knowledge.
